Chunk appears twice in the Care Center — optionally as Grace in the East Wing, and mandatorily as Leon in the Attic if Grace didn't kill him first. This guide covers both encounters, the Hemolytic Injector method, and the optimal Leon Attic strategy.
Chunk is the foul-mouthed mutated "baby" that haunts the Rhodes Hill Clinic hallways and attic. Despite his grotesque, hulking appearance, Chunk moves slowly — but he can bulldoze through standard infected, squeeze through narrow corridors, and one-shot you if he catches you in close quarters.
Chunk is unusual in that he appears for both Grace and Leon: optionally for Grace during her Care Center segment, and as a mandatory boss fight for Leon when he returns through the Attic later. Killing him as Grace makes Leon's encounter optional, but doing both rewards a unique cosmetic.
| Location | Care Center East Wing (2F) & Attic |
| Playable as | Grace (optional) & Leon (mandatory) |
| Phases | 1 — straight damage race, no transformations |
| Weakness | Head and belly — shotgun blasts ideal |
| Optional Grace kill | 3 Hemolytic Injectors or 2-3 Requiem bullets |
| Leon's main weapon | MSBG 500 Shotgun (pickup spawns at fight start) |
For Grace, the Chunk encounter is entirely optional. He can be found by heading to the East Wing (2F) and following the corridor that leads to the Wristband ID (Level 1) location. He moves slowly enough that ambush from behind is reliably possible.
Once Grace solves the Requiem Blood Analyzer puzzle, she gains the ability to craft Hemolytic Injectors. Three injectors will kill Chunk outright if applied from stealth — sneak up behind him, then trigger each injector in quick succession.
This is the resource-efficient option. Crafting three injectors costs less than burning 2-3 Requiem bullets, and Requiem ammunition is far rarer in the late game.
If you haven't yet solved the Blood Analyzer puzzle, or if you're rushing through Grace's segment, 2-3 Requiem bullets to the head will also do the job. This is faster but burns through ammo you'll want later.
Killing Chunk as Grace completes the Grace and Goliath challenge, which rewards a unique charm cosmetic. It also makes Leon's Attic encounter optional rather than mandatory, saving roughly 8-12 minutes of playtime on a Platinum run. Highly recommended.
If Grace didn't kill Chunk, Leon must face him in the Attic. This is a traditional Resident Evil boss arena: a small room with interwoven paths, vertical ladder navigation, and limited supplies.
The instant the encounter begins, sprint to the MSBG 500 Shotgun spawned on the floor near the entrance. This pickup is the single most important action of the fight — handgun damage is negligible against Chunk's bulk, and the Attic floor is littered with extra shotgun shells specifically because the fight is designed around this weapon.
Aim for Chunk's head primarily, with belly shots as backup when he's facing you directly. Each well-placed shotgun blast at close range deals heavy damage. Move between shots — standing still gets you grabbed.
The Attic has yellow ladders that grant access to a raised platform overhead. Climb up, wait for Chunk to attempt to follow, then unload shotgun fire into his head and hands. This forces him to stagger and fall back to the lower level, briefly stunning him.
When Chunk is stunned on the lower level, drop down quickly and sprint to his head to initiate a melee finisher prompt. This inflicts massive extra damage and is the fastest way to break his health bar.
Once Chunk starts to spew blood from holes across his body, the fight is functionally over — his hit-points have been depleted. You don't need to keep shooting; back away and wait for him to explode on his own. Standing too close at the explosion can chip your health, so retreat to the room edge.
Defeating Chunk grants:
The destructible wooden pillars are easy to miss — they look like decorative beams. Before exiting the Attic, lure dropping pillars or shoot them directly to harvest extra shells. You'll want every one for the Plant 43 fight that follows shortly after.
