The Girl is Grace Ashcroft's recurring antagonist throughout the Care Center, finally killable at the Water Treatment Facility by exploiting her light weakness. This guide covers all three power distribution units, floodlight management, and the final hatch sequence.
The Girl is a recurring antagonist that Grace Ashcroft encounters several times during the Care Center section, including the Care Center Nurse's Station and the Care Center Basement. She has a mortal weakness to light — her skin burns under bright illumination, causing her to flee. This is the mechanic the boss fight revolves around.
Critically: you cannot kill The Girl in your first two encounters. The first two are stealth/avoidance segments while you collect items like the Requiem fuse and the forklift key. The actual boss fight begins only after you reach the Water Treatment Facility, where Grace gains access to industrial-grade work lights and the upper-level hatch.
| Location | Water Treatment Facility (lower level) |
| Playable as | Grace Ashcroft |
| Encountered earlier | Care Center Nurse's Station & Basement (cannot kill yet) |
| Phases | 1 with 3 sub-objectives (distribution units) |
| Weakness | Light — floodlights stun, sunlight kills |
| Key items needed | Crank Lever (found in Filing Room) |
In the Care Center Nurse's Station and Basement, The Girl is a stealth puzzle, not a fight. The Requiem can stun her temporarily but cannot kill her in these zones. Spend your Requiem bullets only when you absolutely must — for example, when she blocks a corridor you need to traverse to retrieve the three joint plugs in the Basement.
Run for well-lit rooms whenever you spot her. The Care Center has scattered work lights and ceiling fixtures that briefly cause her to retreat. This buys you the seconds you need to maneuver around her.
Before descending to the lower level of the Water Treatment Plant for the boss fight proper:
The boss fight begins when Grace descends to the lower level to redistribute power to the hatch controls. The Girl patrols this area continuously, and a stealth-first approach is strongly recommended.
The three power distribution units are marked as objectives on the map and located in three specific rooms: Storage, Sedimentation, and Chemical Treatment. You must reactivate all three before you can ride the elevator back up and trigger the hatch sunlight.
Industrial floodlights are mounted around the facility. Interacting with one switches it on and stuns The Girl for approximately 15 seconds. Critical limitations:
The Storage unit sits next to a stack of barrels. As Grace approaches, The Girl knocks over the barrels and emerges. Switch on the nearby floodlight to stun her, then maneuver around her body to reach and activate the distribution unit.
From Storage, head to the Control Room and continue past its distribution unit into the adjoining Filing Room. Pick up the Crank Lever from the shelf there. The Girl will follow you into Filing Room — wait for her to enter, then loop around her and exit. Return to the Control Room and interact with the Sedimentation distribution unit using the Crank Lever you just retrieved.
The final distribution unit is jammed and requires a 10-second hold on the interact button to activate. This is the most dangerous unit because you cannot break off the interaction mid-way.
Lure The Girl over to the floodlight on the other side of the dividing window, trigger the light, then take the right-hand path to maneuver around her while she's stunned. You'll have just enough window to reach the Chemical Treatment unit and complete the 10-second hold before the stun wears off.
With all three units online, take the elevator to return to the upper level. The Girl pursues. Use the upper-level floodlight to stun her one final time, then activate the hatch switch. The hatch opens overhead.
The game prompts you to shoot her — do not waste your ammunition. Maintain distance, and let the unfiltered sunlight pouring through the opened hatch do the work. The Girl melts as the light burns her remaining flesh.
Defeating The Girl unlocks:
This is one of the few boss fights in Resident Evil: Requiem where ammo conservation matters less than spatial awareness. Your floodlight management dictates success here, not raw damage output.
