The RPD + Orphanage chapter is Leon's most iconic stretch in Resident Evil Requiem — a long-form callback to RE2 that introduces Mr. X / Super Tyrant in the abandoned Raccoon City Police Department, then drops Leon into the Orphanage where the campaign's emotional core unfolds. This RE9 walkthrough covers both halves end-to-end.
| Location | RPD East Wing + Orphanage (mid-game pivot) |
| Playable as | Leon S. Kennedy |
| Items obtained | Kendo Custom Handgun, Evidence Room Safe rewards, Orphanage Keepsake |
| Bosses | Mr. X / Super Tyrant (chase sequence, not killable yet) |
| Trophies | Rookie Detective (Bronze), Memorial (Silver) |
| Difficulty | ★★★ Hard (7.5/10) |
This is the campaign's longest single chapter and its narrative pivot. Leon's history with the RPD becomes plot-relevant for the first time, the Mr. X chase introduces the campaign's scariest pursuit mechanic, and the Orphanage delivers the emotional revelation that recontextualizes Grace's arc.
Budget at least 90 minutes for a first run. Save before triggering the RPD reception cutscene — there are limited save points until you reach the Orphanage.
Leon emerges from the Water Treatment Plant rooftop ladder onto the waterfront docks. The path to the RPD is linear (no exploration branches) but has three pickup points:
The RPD's main entrance is sealed; you enter through the parking garage side door. The reception hall is exactly as RE2 veterans remember it — the goddess statue, the directory board, and the spiral staircase up to East Wing 2F.
Two zombies in the entry, four in the reception hall. Conserve ammo where you can — the Kendo detour next will refill you anyway, but you want to leave the reception with the handgun reloaded.
Kendo's Gun Shop is a two-block detour east of the RPD entry. Robert Kendo is gone but the shop is unlocked — first time in the series the player can directly loot the gun shop.
The Evidence Room is on RPD East Wing 1F. Behind the cage door is Safe #3 from our safe codes guide. The room is patrolled by one heavy zombie — knife stealth-kill from behind, do not waste ammo.
The safe contains: Magnum ammo (8 rounds) + First Aid Spray + antique coin. Open it now — you cannot return after Mr. X spawns.
Triggering the East Wing 2F cutscene drops the ceiling and Mr. X drops down. This first encounter is a chase, not a fight — he cannot be killed yet and his HP regenerates instantly.
Full route map + parry strategy in our Mr. X / Super Tyrant boss guide. Quick summary:
The Orphanage is the chapter's emotional core. The gameplay slows down: zero combat, three story rooms to explore, and a single major collectible — the Orphanage Keepsake, which becomes a key item for the Victor Gideon final boss's alternate ending.
Read every file in the headmistress' office. Three of them tie back to plot beats from the Wrenwood Hotel intro chapter. The save typewriter is on the second floor — use it before exiting.
The Orphanage transitions automatically to Raccoon City Square once you collect the Keepsake.
Raccoon City Square is the next chapter — the open-world hub between Orphanage and ARK Facility. The Titan Spinner boss waits in the central plaza, and the side districts contain three of the campaign's missable Mr. Raccoon dolls.
