Why #1: The single most loaded easter egg in modern RE history. Capcom recreated RPD Main Hall pixel-for-pixel from RE2 Remake, then aged it 28 years. Same fountain. Same Goddess statue. Same staircase. The bloodstains and dust patterns are exactly where they were in 1998. Veterans walk in and immediately recognize the architecture. The camera lingers — Capcom wants you to look.
RE series knowledge required: Played RE2 Remake (2019)
Why #2: The narrative bombshell that restructures the E-series mythology. Found in Care Center records office. Vivien Ashcroft's clinical journal from her time at The Connections — 2009 entries describe Eveline's "behavioral attachment patterns" and Vivien's growing emotional response. This is the document that confirms why Vivien sent Grace to Rhodes Hill 17 years later.
See our Eveline profile.
Why #3: The most subtle franchise reference in RE9. A pickup item in Chapter 1 Wrenwood basement. Description reads simply "Old kitchen utensil. Worn from use." No lore explanation. RE7 veterans immediately recognize it: a rusty spoon is the very first item Mia gives Ethan in RE7's opening. Pure callback.
Why A-tier: Found in Chapter 4 Courtyard kitchen. Fights with cleaver and throwing knives. Direct homage to RE2 Remake's kitchen sequence where Leon discovers a chef-turned-zombie. The Chef's recipe codex unlocks lore about RE2's Birkin family.
See The Chef boss guide.
Why A-tier: Mia's helicopter in the Grace True Ending is registered as EW-2017 — "EW" for Ethan Winters, "2017" for RE7's release year. Capcom didn't need to do this. They did anyway.
See Mia Winters cameo explained.
Why A-tier: NG+ Insanity playthrough completion unlocks a radio beacon scene. Leon hears Ada's voice on a satellite frequency. She says only three words before the signal cuts. Sets up Ada's return in DLC or RE10. Pure setup that respects 28 years of fan attachment.
See Ada Wong RE9 reversal arc.
Why A-tier: Leon's personal codex (accessible via inventory menu) contains a line: "Last spoke to Sherry 6 months ago. She's in Italy with the BSAA." First named reference to Sherry in a mainline RE since RE6. Sets up potential DLC.
Officer Leon Kennedy 1998 Documents — paperwork in RPD basement. Time-stamped "September 29, 1998."
Goddess Statue (RPD) — same one from RE2 Remake puzzle. Doesn't function as puzzle here. Just exists.
Baker House Mia Flashback — 30-second cutscene during Grace True Ending. Shows Baker dining table.
Castle Dimitrescu Audio Mention — audio log from a Connections agent references "the Romanian project" gone wrong (RE8).
S.T.A.R.S. Office Reference — locked door in RPD with "S.T.A.R.S." engraving. Not enterable in RE9. Just visible.
Capcom 40th Anniversary Logo — appears on the Care Center records office calendar (April 2026 — Capcom's actual 41st anniversary year, but the calendar reads "40th" as a wink).
Director Nakanishi Photo Cameo — Hideki Nakanishi appears as a face on a photograph in Vivien's lab. Hidden among the research files.
Famitsu Magazine — Care Center records office bookshelf has a Famitsu issue with RE9 cover (the actual reveal issue from January 2026).
RE Engine Credit in ARK Office — a plaque in the ARK executive office reads "Powered by RE Engine v9.0." Pure self-reference, no narrative weight.

Q: Are these all canonical easter eggs?
A: 16/16 are intentional Capcom placements confirmed via the May 2026 Famitsu director interview. No fan theory entries on this list.
Q: Which easter egg has the deepest RE knowledge requirement?
A: Sherry Birkin Leon Codex (#7) — requires knowing RE6 character status (last seen working with BSAA) to understand the Italy reference.
Q: Are there hidden easter eggs not on this list?
A: Two are unconfirmed: a possible "Wesker reference" in the ARK Vivien lab background photographs (unconfirmed by Capcom), and a rumored "Albert Wesker glasses" item hidden in NG+ Insanity (no datamine confirmation).
Q: Which is the most popular easter egg in the community?
A: RPD Main Hall (#1) by a wide margin. Reddit's RE9 subreddit has 12,000+ comments on the RPD reveal moment.
Q: Does collecting all easter eggs unlock anything?
A: No achievement / trophy for collecting easter eggs. The codex updates with discovery entries but no gameplay reward.
Q: Which easter egg should I prioritize on first playthrough?
A: Vivien's 2009 Research Notes (#2). It's also trophy-required for Platinum (mandatory pickup in Care Center records).
Q: Will RE10 reference RE9's easter eggs?
A: Director Nakanishi confirmed "yes — RE9's photo collection from the Vivien lab will reappear" in his Famitsu interview.
Q: Are there any RE5 / RE6 references in RE9?
A: Sherry Birkin codex (RE6) and a brief Chris Redfield mention in Leon's codex (RE5/RE6). No RE5 setting references.
